Earlier this week, I was nominated for this wonderful Harry Potter tag by Sophie Ismaa! If you’ve been following my blog for basically any time at all, then you will know that I am a MASSIVE fan of the Harry Potter franchise and have even started a reread project of the series. I am therefore really excited about this tag!
Which House are you in?*
Apparently, I am a Gryffindor! I’ve actually had quite a few Pottermore accounts over the years (I always forget my login information, plus I like redoing the quizzes), and I’ve essentially been given a different house each time. I think I’ve now had Gryffindor twice, Ravenclaw twice and Slytherin once! I made another account for this tag, though, so my answer has to be Gryffindor. I guess that means that I’m brave – which I’m definitely not!
What is your Patronus?*
I have been given a dapple grey mare for a patronus… which is a horse – a weirdly specific horse. It is apparently very strong and filled with energy. If I’m going to be completely honest, I cannot think of a patronus that would suit me less. Firstly, I am absolutely terrified of horses (they are MASSIVE!), but I’ve also never considered myself to be that positive. The dapple grey mare is all about positivity and love, but I’m not usually that open about my emotions. I don’t know – it just seemed a bit off, that’s all.
What is your Wand?*
My wand is made from yew, has a phoenix feather core, is 10″ and is slightly springy. Overall, this means that I’m quite unusual, as the yew wood and phoenix core are both quite unusual. Apparently, though, yew also lends itself to the Dark Arts – whoops!
*This question is based on your answers to quizzes available on the Pottermore website.
What would your Boggart be?
The thing that I’m probably most afraid of is darkness, so perhaps my boggart could take the form of a great, dark cape that fills the entire room?
What Position would you Play in Quidditch?
First off, I would not be a part of any Quidditch team. The pressure placed on those players is unthinkable, but if I was in a team, I’d probably be a chaser. I’m not strong enough to be a beater, and I like the idea of working in a team.
Would you be Pure Blood, Half Blood or Muggle Born?
This is an interesting question because blood status isn’t generally something you choose. I’d probably say muggle born simply because I can’t imagine either of my parents being witches or wizards!
What Job would you like to have after Graduating from Hogwarts?
Huh, that’s a tough one. Maybe I’ll take over Hogwarts library from Madam Pince and lighten up the place a little bit.
Which of the Deathly Hallows would you choose?
The cloak. I mean, it’s the obvious answer and the only one that really works. The stone is good, but makes you go crazy, and the wand gets you killed, so it has to be the cloak.
This would probably have to be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. A lot of people don’t like this book, but it is my absolute favourite. I feel as though the characters really start to develop in this book, and also I love the storyline… and I love Lupin… and Sirius!
Least Favourite Book?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! Again, I’m against the crowd with this one, as a lot of people love this book, but I never really took to it. I feel as though the action, through the Triwizard Tournament, is just a little forced. Having said that, I still absolutely love this book – Voldemort’s return is absolutely chilling!
That’s got to be a tie between the first two! I absolutely love the emotion in them, especially at the end. Everything seems so much more magical than in the later films.
Least Favourite Film?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One. The final book did not need to be split into two films. I hate how my favourite franchise got dragged into this money-making scheme and honestly find this film so dull. All of the action happens in the second film because that’s how narratives work; the action comes at the end! (Most of the time…)
Ron! All too many fans seem to forget about Ron, but he is clearly the best character in the series. I know that he abandons Harry and Hermione in the final book, but I don’t really blame him. I mean, people weren’t supposed to be able to stand up to Voldemort – that’s the point of Voldemort – and yet Harry and Hermione seemed surprised when the Horcrux in the locket puts horrible thoughts into his head?
Least Favourite/Most Hated Character?
I actually hate Dolores Umbridge more than I hate Voldemort. I realise that, objectively, Voldemort is a lot worse, but everyone is aware of how evil he is! Umbridge is constantly placed in a position of power… I mean, seriously?!
Favourite Teacher at Hogwarts?
Professor McGonagall! Not only is she one of the few teachers who seems to actually care about teaching her students, but her character is also allowed to develop throughout the series. She is reliable and so incredibly loyal! She has to be the best teacher.
Do you have any Unpopular Opinions about the Series?
As I mentioned before, my favourite and least favourite books are pretty unpopular choices. Other than that, though, I can’t really think of anything. I’ll be happy to have any of my opinions challenged, though!
There is no pressure at all to take part in this tag! Also, if you’re reading this post and wish you were tagged, I officially tag you!
Do you have any Potter-related thoughts? Let me know in the comments section below; I’m always happy to discuss this series!
