About Me

Thank you for stumbling across my little book blog. If you’re visiting this page, you may just be wondering about the blogger behind the words. Well, my name is Emily and I am a book reviewer based in the UK. I founded A Literary Life in June 2016, the summer before I began studying towards my undergraduate degree in English. I am now in the third and final year of my course, busy working towards a 2019 graduation!

My Reading Backstory

As a child, I was rarely seen without a book in my hand. I read constantly. My favourite books were, naturally, J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. I then progressed to the likes of Twilight and The Hunger Games. Unfortunately, when I was about sixteen, my reading came to a gradual halt. I was in my GCSE years, and I began putting all of my energy into my studies. I still read, but I didn’t read for pleasure – not during my GCSEs, and not during my A Levels. Thankfully, I rediscovered my love for reading during my degree. Now, not a single day goes by when I do not open up a book. I have rediscovered my passion, and this blog is a way for me to share it.

The Books I Read

I read and review a large variety of books, from YA fantasy novels to gothic (and very adult) thrillers. My favourite authors include Stephen King, Madeline Miller, J. K. Rowling, Charles Dickens, and the infamous William Shakespeare. I also read a lot of books from new and indie authors; I love supporting new writers, particularly if their work deserves attention (if you’re an author or publisher interested in getting your book reviewed on A Literary Life, please check out my review policy)!
